Youth Class Descriptions

Classes for Children

Youth Elementary I (ages 6 – 8): All students must be able to pay attention and follow teacher instructions. Students learn basic Italian vocabulary and expressions including greetings, introductions, items in the home, descriptions of weather, parts of the body, colors, and qualifiers for sensory experiences. Activities include the following:

  • Listening to and viewing audio-visual materials
  • Dramatization and singing
  • Simple math and logic games
  • Drawing and collage
  • 3-D form building
  • Group games (Italian tombola, treasure hunt, etc.)
  • Conversation and basic writing
  •  

Youth Elementary II (ages 9 – 12): All students must be able to pay attention and follow teacher instructions. Students learn to read, listen and comprehend, write, and speak basic sentences through group activities that focus on their interests and hobbies. Students research Italian geography and history and discuss their impressions of Italian culture and life. Learning topics include the following:

  • Subject pronouns
  • The Italian verbs for to be and to have
  • Adjectives and adverbs
  • Basic verb conjugations
  • Making requests and asking permission
